In 2008 my husband received a job in Turkey. I accompanied him with our young children. On our first week in Turkey my neighbor invited me to coffee. That is how I met Isabel. I was a foreign woman living in Turkey. Isabel introduced me to other foreign women who lived in the neighborhood. We became friends and started to share our personal stories. I found out that most of them came to Turkey because of love, and had inter-cultural marriages. With time I became curious about the meaning of interfaith and inter-cultural unions: How did they meet their husbands? What made them choose to live in Turkey? How does the interfaith/inter-cultural marriage influence the identity of their children?
This blog presents the stories of the women I met in Turkey, women who became my friends and shared their stories with me. This blog also commemorates Isabel, who died on March 23rd 2018.
